Our Story
The
year was 1917. Reverend Johnny Cochrane
came to San Bernardino for a series of
Revival services. A number of people
were converted and a new society was
formed - the "First Free Methodist
Church of San Bernardino" at 2nd and H
streets. Many different pastors served
the church through the next 36 years.
In
1953 the congregation moved into their
new church building at 30th and
Waterman, and the congregation began to
grow. The highest attendance level was
reached on Easter Sunday, 1959, when
more than 400 people crowded the
sanctuary.
The
Sunday School wing was added in 1963.
The residence immediately north of the
church was purchased and converted into
Sunday School rooms and a church office.
Other changes involved platform
remodeling, rest room remodeling, office
remodeling, a new entryway into the
sanctuary, and stone work around the
patio.
The church has undergone two name
changes - Wesley Community Church and
finally Crossroads Christian Fellowship.
Though various pastors have served our
congregation, and many changes have
taken place over the years, we continue
to exist as a community learning
together what it means to live like
Christ. As we begin a new season at
Crossroads, we invite you to join us in
writing this chapter in not only our
church's collective story, but in God's
larger story that He began writing with
the creation of the world and is
continuing to write in and through our
lives today.
Our Core
Values
• Outreach-
We believe that the church’s primary
purpose is the community around it.
Therefore, we place a high priority on
activities that reach out to those who
live near us.
• All
People Matter to God- No
matter how much money a person has, his
or her skin color, education level, or
life experience, all people matter to
God, so they matter to us as well.
•
Community- We want our church
to be a “family of families”. The
Christian life was meant to be lived out
in community, so we want to foster the
feeling of community.
•
Authenticity- We will never
be plastic. We are all learning
together what it means to live like
Jesus. We will make mistakes, but admit
them frankly. We will never judge you,
since in the Christian life, the journey
is the destination.
• Learning
the Way of Christ- Jesus said
that he came to give people “Abundant
Life.” That means that the life of
Christ is the best possible way to
live. Therefore, we focus our teachings
on learning together just what that
means.
• Worship
in Action- We believe that
worship is not an event that people
attend, but it’s the lifestyle they
lead. We want to be full-time
worshipers, and demonstrate that by our
compassion, mercy, and generosity.
•
Excellence in Ministry- We
believe that excellence honors God and
inspires people. We want Crossroads to
be a place where you can confidently
invite your friends. Therefore, we will
work to make it the best it can be.
Our
